Well, looks like the Golden Days are over.
I had several on- and offline discussions with other artists and art-lovers and it appears, that it is no longer possible building up a stable fan-base for one´s artwork, especially with 18+ stuff.
It´s the sheer amount of online-communities, offering free services for artists and free artwork for collectors and art-lovers. DA was one of the first serious art-communities and it WAS amazing then; but others saw, how much money was in this business, selling ad-space and so other communities developed or jumped on the band-wagon, now sharing the fixed number of users amongst many online services. I guess, that´s why DA got sold; the previous owners saw the $-numbers going down and reacted accordingly. Smart move for them; tough move for DA-users.
At the moment, if I want some attention, I have to post on DeviantArt, HentaiFoundry, FurAffinity, FaceBook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram and altogether I reveive only a handfull of comments and likes, because the "old" users of those communities have moved on with their lives or have focussed on a community more suitable for them; a community I do not post my stuff in. Unfortunately, I cannot post everything everywhere. The current submission is a good example.
Only few communites accept Hentai or at least nude artwork and even IF they accept the hard stuff, it gets hidden in a way, that you only find it, if you exactly know, what you are looking for - I guess, because otherwise it could scare away the sponsors/advertising clients.
Now YouTube has changed it´s policy, making it very hard for video-artists to earn money with YT and this means, my Kyoko-animation project for YT is a dead-born baby.
Am I complaining?
I understand, that people hosting communities want as much effortless money as possible and art-loving idealists are some sort of mythical creatures. And if you want web-contents care-free, you simply have to pay for it. As soon as money is involved, artists make sure to post on a regular basis, so they do not get the reputation of a rip-off.
Net-Neutrality bye bye - no matter, what politicians say. It´s already working that way.
If I would be a better artist or creating more popular artwork, then I certainly would have my fan-base supporting me on Patreon or similar platforms, like the amazing Canadian girl who gets DA´s full attention with her technically brilliant digital fan-art.
Am I jealous? Not anymore. She´s a hard worker and a very skilled artist and I love her stuff. She deserves everything she gets ^^
It was MY decision, not to create mainstream - and the result is a couple of die-hard fans I am very greatful for that
I am content.
So what now? Nothing. Kyoko will go on; without the illusion, she could become so popular that I might be able to make a living of drawing sexy cat-girls from outer space.
Why am I writing this? Well, I am begging for your attention
Your likes and comments are what keeps me going. Without likes and comments, I have no reason to gowan. Thank you for being there and supporting what I love to do the most
I especially would like to thank the people spending lots of time commenting and discussing with me. Thank you for being friends (or at least behaving like friends
). If I have forgotten to mention you, please let me know; I will happily add you to the list
the order is totally random ^^
